CHEER
Bethany Ackerman, Cheer coach at Delmarva Christian, reflects on the 2023-2024 season with immense pride. Welcoming two co-coaches, the team experienced unprecedented growth, boasting its largest squad since Ackerman's tenure began in 2016. With 18 cheerleaders hailing from diverse backgrounds, they seamlessly united toward a common goal.

This season witnessed remarkable progress in stunting, with the team mastering new techniques and daring two-tier stunts. They diligently honed sequence jumps, expanded their repertoire of cheers, and executed multiple routines flawlessly. Through unwavering dedication and teamwork, they conquered challenges on and off the field, leaving a positive impact on peers and mentors alike. Ackerman succinctly describes the season as characterized by "growth."

A notable achievement was every cheerleader's successful exploration of a new stunt position, fostering mutual support and accomplishment. While traditional statistical categories do not apply to cheer, Ackerman highlights Aria Gill's emergence as a senior leader and Haley Jones's remarkable transition from a quiet freshman to a formidable flyer, epitomizing the team's spirit and resilience.

SWIM

The Swim Team had a memorable season marked by notable achievements and moments of triumph. Trax Rodgers and Emmi Obertubbesing's qualification for the 2024 DIAA Swimming and Diving Championships showcased the team's talent and dedication, highlighting their commitment to excellence in the pool.

Senior Night proved to be a particularly thrilling occasion, as Sean Dawson seized the spotlight with impressive victories in the 100 breaststroke and 200 freestyle events. His outstanding performance not only celebrated his individual achievements but also served as a testament to his leadership and contributions to the team throughout his time with the program.

MIDDLE SCHOOL - Coach Dave Bowlin's Take

Girls Basketball
This year’s girls’ basketball team brought new meaning to the word “tenacious.” Under the leadership of Coach Eddie & Coach Julie, these girls fought for every single game - even winning a few games by heart and sheer determination (perhaps the word to best describe the season) - going 4-3 in their final 7 games. Through this determined spirit, the girls improved immensely over the course of the season, culminating in a 29-point victory to close out the season. 7th grader Olivia Balback led the team in scoring overall, but this was a team that removed individual ego for the sake of the team, with several different players taking turns in leading the team in different ways. 8th grader Lydia Hudson led the team in rebounding and blocked shots, while 7th graders Chloe Tremblay and Hannah Sliben respectively led the way in 3-point and mid-range shots made, and fellow 7th grader Addison Price proved to be a worthy floor general leading the team in assists and steals. A well-balanced team that worked together and never stopped fighting, this group of girls was always entertaining to watch.

Boys’ Basketball
The very definition of a “rebuilding year,” this year’s boys’ basketball team only had one returning player from last year (as 11 of their 12 players last year were graduating 8th graders). That being said, Coach Dave’s crew had their work cut out for them, but proved to be a team of resilience. Overcoming a variety of injuries and illnesses (the team was only 100% healthy for 1 practice all season), this team never gave up in their quest to improve. Even in a rebuilding year, there were some standout performances, such as 7th grader Evan Turner setting a new school record with 10 assists in one game, and his classmates Alex Basar & Aaron Gulab each having individual standout games including 18 points on 9-11 shooting, and 13 points on 3-4 3-point shooting respectively. The balanced team-play continued as 8th graders Elijah Marino and Malachi Elliott also had games where they led the team in scoring. Basar led the team in scoring and blocks - and even came just short of 100 rebounds for the season, leading the team. A team’s record does not always define their level of success, and this season was an example of that. These boys showed resilience and a desire to learn & grow, while consistently exemplifying strong Christian character to officials and opposing schools- which at the end of the day, is far more important than winning on the scoreboard.
