Who’s Driving? A Defining Day of Faith at DCS

Spiritual Emphasis Day at DCS is more than just a break from the classroom—it’s a reset.

Middle school students spent the day at The Crossing Church, focusing on what it means to truly own their faith.

Through worship, prayer, and small groups led by Adam Woods, Austin Garrett, and their team, students were encouraged to take the next step in making their faith personal and that being a fan of Jesus doesn't cost you anything, but being a follower requires sacrifice.

At the same time, high school students gathered at United Church in Milford for a day that challenged them to look inward.

During his sermon, DCS alumnus and Student Minister at Ocean View Church of Christ Micah Magee posed simple—but powerful—questions:
  • Are feelings driving your life? Where are you headed—and who is driving?
  • Do my decisions support the person that God has called me to be?
Those questions carried into every part of the day—into worship, into conversations, and into quiet moments of reflection.

Students also wrestled with the idea that feelings, when left in control, can lead us down the wrong path—but faith calls us to something deeper. The example of Caleb and Joshua reminded students what it looks like to stand firm, even when circumstances feel overwhelming.

One of the most impactful challenges of the day was learning to turn anxiety and anger into a prompt for prayer—choosing to bring those emotions to God rather than letting them take control.

As High School Principal Chloe Hackett shared, the real impact comes after the day ends—when students begin to live out what they’ve heard.

We’re thankful for the partnership of both churches and the way they poured into our students. Now the focus shifts to what’s next—how these truths take root in everyday life.
