Haley Jones Represents Delmarva Christian at National Girls & Women in Sports Day

Delmarva Christian senior Haley Jones was recently honored at the Delaware House of Representatives as part of the National Girls & Women in Sports Day celebration, recognizing outstanding female high school athletes from across the state.

Held at Legislative Hall, the event brought together student-athletes who have demonstrated excellence in both athletics and academics. During the visit, Haley had the opportunity to meet state leaders including the Governor, First Lady, Lieutenant Governor, and members of the House of Representatives. The day included a tour of the legislative building followed by a formal recognition ceremony, where each athlete was introduced along with their school, sports, and grade level.

“It was a really special experience,” Haley said. “It was exciting to be surrounded by so many talented female athletes and to see how many girls and women are making an impact and difference through sports.”

A three-sport athlete competing in cheer, field hockey, and soccer, Haley values the unique experiences each sport provides.

“I enjoy getting to know different people in different sports that I might not normally see,” she shared. “Sports have helped me grow not only as an athlete but as a person—they’ve taught me to give full effort, work through challenges, and persevere even when it’s hard.”

Balancing multiple sports with academics has also helped shape her as a student.

“Sports have taught me how to prioritize and manage my time,” Haley said. “It can be stressful at times, but it’s helped me appreciate the opportunity to be a student-athlete.”

Beyond competition, Haley recognizes the deeper impact sports can have.

“Sports have shaped my whole life. They’ve helped me understand my limits, grow as a person, and find ways to share my faith.”

Haley also emphasized the importance of recognizing female athletes through events like National Girls & Women in Sports Day.

“It’s important to celebrate girls and women in sports so they know the hard work and countless hours they put in are seen and appreciated,” she said. “It shows them they have a future in sports and that what they’re doing matters.”

Her advice to younger students considering athletics is simple:

“Just go out and try your best. Everyone has to start somewhere, and you never know how much you could love it if you don’t try. If you’re willing to work hard, it will show.”

Haley’s dedication, perseverance, and leadership both on and off the field are a reflection of what makes Delmarva Christian student-athletes stand out.
