Royals Winter Season Recap: A Year of Dedication, Growth, and Faith
The 2025–2026 winter season at Delmarva Christian was marked by growth, perseverance, and a shared commitment to honoring God through athletics. Across every program, from cheerleading to basketball to swimming our student-athletes competed with passion, supported one another, and represented the Royals with integrity both on and off the court.
Middle School Basketball: Building the Future
Girls Basketball
Despite having a young roster, the middle school girls team showed resilience and determination throughout the season. Led by captains Charley Bohinski and Addie McGuinness, the team improved consistently and competed with heart.
One of the season’s most memorable moments came in a comeback victory against Saints Peter & Paul, highlighted by a clutch fourth-quarter performance and game-winning shot. With most of the roster returning, the future is bright for this group.
Boys Basketball
The middle school boys team delivered a historic season, finishing 10–3 and setting new school records for wins and total points scored. The team’s balanced attack and strong leadership led to multiple individual records and a thrilling victory over The Country School in the final seconds.
With a strong core returning, this program continues to build momentum for the future.
Cheerleading: A Season of Energy and Excellence
Under the leadership of Coach Balliet, the cheerleading squad experienced its largest roster to date, with twenty athletes bringing energy and enthusiasm to every game. With a mix of eight returning members and twelve newcomers, the team quickly developed strong chemistry and a shared purpose.
This season was filled with exciting milestones. The squad hosted its first mini cheer camp, introduced a new game-day entrance routine, and expanded its halftime performances to four unique routines featuring stunts, tumbling, and choreography that engaged fans of all ages.
A standout stunt group consistently performed skills ranging from Level 1 to Level 5, demonstrating both athleticism and teamwork while mentoring younger teammates. The team’s tumblers also made an impact with dynamic runs that elevated performances throughout the season.
Senior Captain Claire Balliet played a vital role in the program’s growth, not only through her leadership on the court but also by recruiting new members and helping choreograph routines. Her Christ-like leadership, encouragement, and dedication helped shape the team into more than a squad, it became a family.
In the end, one word defined the season: dedication. From practices to performances, these athletes gave their all while shining God’s light in every moment.
Boys Basketball: Competing with Purpose
Coach Pat Woods reflected on a season defined by unity and character. The team embraced their roles, worked together, and remained committed to displaying a godly disposition even in challenging moments.
The team were crowned ESIAC Champions, defeating Worcester Prep at home to complete a clean sweep of ESIAC competition. While they missed the goal of a state tournament bid, the team made huge advancements from day one of practice to the ESIAC finals.
Beyond the scoreboard, the true success of the season was found in the relationships built and the shared desire to grow, not just as players, but as individuals who care deeply for one another.
Swimming: Making History
The swim team, led by Coach Brooke Ogden and Coach Laurel, experienced a truly historic season. In their first year with the program, the coaches emphasized building a culture of trust, faith, and unity and the athletes responded.
Every swimmer on the roster qualified for the State Championship meet, marking the first time in school history that 100% of the team advanced to states.
Beyond this remarkable achievement, the team demonstrated leadership, accountability, and encouragement throughout the season. One standout performance came from Tristan McCullough, who finished Top 10 in the state in the 500 Freestyle, showcasing both determination and growth.
The season was a testament to what can be accomplished when athletes commit fully and trust in both their training and their faith.
Girls Basketball: Perseverance Through Adversity
The varsity girls basketball team battled through a challenging season filled with injuries but showed resilience and determination, finishing 7–13 and earning a spot in the ESIAC Tournament semifinal.
Senior Eve Bohinski led the team with outstanding performances in points, rebounds, and steals, while Avery McCoy emerged as a key contributor with a strong all-around season. Eva Elliott displayed tremendous leadership and perseverance, returning from injury to make a meaningful impact and encourage her teammates every step of the way.
