A Royal Performance: Delmarva Christian Theater Club Presents Disney’s Lion King Jr
Delmarva Christian’s Theater Club brought the savanna to life this past weekend as students performed Disney's Lion King Jr. to two packed-house audiences on November 14 and 15. The production featured 107 students from 4th through 12th grade, making it one of our most collaborative and creative shows yet.
Now in its third year, the Theater Club has become a beloved part of student life, offering young performers the chance to grow in confidence, creativity, and community. Students have been rehearsing since September, and their dedication shone brightly on stage.
"We weren’t sure if we’d be able to pull off a musical of this magnitude, but wow did our students show up! Both performances were absolutely phenomenal, and we could not have asked for more. They worked incredibly hard leading up to the show, and every bit of that effort truly paid off. Congratulations to all of you — we are so proud!," Dr. Katie Chappell.
A Full-District Effort
This production was truly a team effort:
High School Fine Arts students served as the backstage crew, providing vocals, starring in roles, and one was on stilts!
The Art Department, through the newly formed Prop Shop Club, handcrafted the stunning masks and costumes worn by the cast.
Industrial Arts students built the impressive stage set pieces that transformed the gym into the Pride Lands.
The show was directed by a talented and dedicated team: Dr. Katie Chappell, Constable Tony McLellan, Rhonda Taylor, and Dana Rohrbaugh. Their leadership guided the cast and crew in bringing this vibrant story to life.
"We are incredibly blessed with the students and staff that were involved in this production," Rhonda Taylor. "Everyone brought forth the excellence that is so valued here at Delmarva Christian and it showed in a musical that was amazing in every aspect. We are excited for what the future holds for the DCMC Drama Club!"
From the youngest performers in 4th grade to the high school students working behind the scenes, this production showcased what happens when creativity, hard work, and community come together. We are proud of every student who played a part in making Lion King Jr. a roaring success.
