Delmarva Christian Students Experience Spiritual Growth at Annual Retreats
Delmarva Christian School middle and high school students recently stepped away from their classrooms to engage in a time of worship, connection, and community at the school’s annual fall retreats. These retreats are a long-standing tradition designed to strengthen students’ faith and foster meaningful relationships at the start of the school year.
Middle School Retreat: Faith and Fellowship at the Beach
Middle school students enjoyed an incredible three-day retreat filled with faith, fellowship, and fun. The week began with a powerful message from Pastor Ryan Coon of Calvary Church before students headed to the beach for games and team-building activities.
On Thursday, the group gathered at The Crossing Church for worship, where Student Minister Austin Garrett encouraged students to grow in their faith and community. The retreat closed Friday morning with a time of praise led by Royals Worship—Delmarva Christian’s high school worship team—followed by more team-building and beach time.
“We’re so grateful for our staff, student leaders, and volunteers who poured into making this retreat meaningful,” shared Drew Jensen Milton Campus Principal. “God is moving in the hearts of our Royals.”
Freshman Retreat: Building a Foundation of Faith
The freshman class traveled to Black Rock Retreat in Quarryville, Pennsylvania, for three days of worship, spiritual growth, and community-building. High School Principal Chloe Hackett encouraged students to step away from distractions, find new friendships, and focus on Jesus, sharing Ecclesiastes 4:12: “A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”
“It was an exciting three days in Black Rock filled with Spirit-led moments and an overwhelming sense of God’s presence,” said Hackett.
A highlight of the retreat came Thursday night as Pastor Jim Peper delivered a powerful message on the great exchange of the cross—how Jesus bore all sin and shame. Students broke into small groups for prayer, many experiencing breakthrough and renewed faith.
The retreat ended with a room full of students singing and declaring: “I have decided to follow Jesus—the world behind, the cross before, and I won’t turn back!”
A Transformative Tradition
Each year, these retreats serve as a powerful launch point for the school year—creating space for students to encounter God, form deeper connections, and build a Christ-centered community. Led by dedicated staff, volunteers, pastors, and student leaders, the retreats reflect the school’s mission to proclaim the Gospel and equip students to impact the world for Christ.
