“I want each student to feel that their thoughts and ideas have value, and I want to hear what they think.”

WHAT MOST EXCITES YOU ABOUT YOUR POSITION AT DCS?

I enjoy middle school English because we read good books and it is exciting to see the students think and share their ideas. The middle school team is also a wonderful group of humans to work with.

WHAT MAKES DELMARVA CHRISTIAN UNIQUE?

Delmarva Christian has been my home for a long time. I am an alumni, class of 2011, and have been a staff member for 7 years. I was hired by Mr. John Sadler right out of college and made wonderful friends who grew with me. This place has celebrated with me and welcomed me back in each season.

WHAT EXPERIENCES, EDUCATION, SKILLS, OR AREAS OF EXPERTISE DO YOU BRING TO YOUR CLASSROOM?

I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I have also taught grades 3 - 8, focusing on many different subjects. I've worked with many different types of students , in different schools. Each one has added to my skill set and caused me to be more flexible and adapt my lessons and expectations.

HOW DO YOU HOPE TO INFLUENCE WHO YOUR STUDENTS BECOME?

I want my students to be life-long learners. I'm not just teaching them to read, but I hope I am teaching them to love books and think critically. We cannot teacher students about every topic under the sun, but I can teach them how to learn and take in new information.

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST HOPE FOR EACH STUDENT?

I want each student to feel that their thoughts and ideas have value, and I want to hear what they think.

FUN FACT:

I am the oldest of 3 children, my sister and I used to share a middle name but I changed it when I got married.

FAVORITE PASSAGE:

1 John 3:16

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LESSON TO TEACH?

Not a specific lesson, but I like to pose moral questions in response to our reading that get the students really thinking. They may have a quick, initial response but the discussion may lead them to change their mind or consider other possibilities.
