DCS Athletic Hall of Fame Induction

Delmarva Christian Schools inducted the second class into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame on December 17.  New members of the hall include Kayla Burd Trujillo, Mallorie Parsons, Justin Hawkes, Luke Mathews, and the 2005-2006 Boys Basketball Team. 

Kayla Burd Trujillo is a 2011 graduate of Delmarva Christian. During her four year athletic career, Kayla was a standout track & field athlete. She earned DIAA All State honors in both indoor and outdoor track in 2009, 2010, and in 2011. In 2009, as a sophomore, she placed 2nd in the Indoor State Championship meet in the Pole Vault for the Royals. She again finished 2nd at the 2010 outdoor state championship meet her junior year. In her senior year, she was the 2011 DIAA Indoor State Champion in the Pole Vault. Kayla was also named the DCHS Distinguished Christian High School Student for Athletic Achievement, an Honor Roll student and a member of the 2011 Science Olympiad team. She was the Royals track & field team MVP in the spring of 2010 and then repeated as team MVP for both the indoor and outdoor teams in 2011.  Following graduation, Kayla attended Radford University on an athletic scholarship at the Division 1 level where she competed as a Pole Vaulter for the Highlanders track & field team. 

Mallorie Parsons is a 2011 graduate of Delmarva Christian High School. Mallorie received DIAA all state honors in both indoor and outdoor track in 2009, 2010, and in 2011. As a sophomore, she finished 3rd at the 2009 Indoor Track & Field Championships and then went on to finish runner-up at the 2009 outdoor State meet. In 2010 She was the DIAA Division II Pole Vault State Champion, making her the first female in DCHS school history to win a state championship. Mallorie was the DCHS MVP for Winter Track in her sophomore year. She was also the team MVP for  Volleyball in 2011. Mallorie was a member of the DCHS National Honor Society, a recipient of the Distinguished Christian High School Student award in Spiritual Leadership and Athletic Achievement, and was the WBOC Mountaire Scholar Athlete of the Month in 2011. Following graduation, Mallorie attended Southeastern University where she played Volleyball for 2 seasons before transferring to Radford University where she finished her undergraduate studies. It is our distinct honor to induct Miss Mallorie Parsons into Delmarva Christian High School’s Athletic Hall of Fame. 

Justin Hawkes is a 2009 graduate of Delmarva Christian High School. During his four year athletic career at DCHS, Justin was a five sport standout athlete in Soccer, Basketball, Baseball, Lacrosse, and Golf. Justin was awarded both ESIAC and Diamond State All Conference honors all four years of his high school career in Soccer, twice in basketball, and once in Lacrosse and Baseball. He was a 2008 DIAA All State Selection in his senior year for Soccer. DCHS Honors awarded to Justin include being named the DCHS Distinguished Christian High School Student for Athletic Achievement. Justin was the 2007 and 2008 team MVP for soccer, the 2009 team MVP for basketball, the 2009 team MVP for baseball, and was named the 2009 DCHS Outstanding male athlete. 

Luke Mathews is a 2009 graduate of Delmarva Christian High School. During his 4 year athletic career at DCHS, Luke was a standout athlete in Soccer, Baseball, and Lacrosse. He was a 3 time ESIAC All Conference Selection in Soccer, a 2 time Diamond State All Conference Selection in Soccer, and a 2008 Diamond State All Conference selection in Baseball. He was a 2008 DIAA All State Selection in his senior year for Soccer. DCHS Honors awarded to Luke include being a recipient of the Distinguished Christian High School Student award in Spiritual Leadership and Athletic Achievement. He was a member of the DCHS Chapter of the National Honor Society and was an honor roll student every semester of his high school career. Luke was the 2009 class Valedictorian and the recipient of multiple academic scholarships.

The 2005/2006 Delmarva Christian High School Boys Basketball team accomplished many firsts for DCHS. In 2005, the boys Basketball team won the first ESIAC Conference Championship as a brand new high school in its first year. In 2006, they repeated as ESIAC Conference Champions and were also the Diamond State Conference Champions that same year. Their 18-4 record, as a 2nd year basketball program, was one of the best in the state of Delaware and landed the Royals in their first ever State Tournament appearance. The accomplishments of this team in the first two years of the schools history, a school with less than 100 students, is truly remarkable and set a precedent for the excellence of Delmarva Christians athletic program.
