Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, PreCalculus, Calculus, Strategic Financial Planning, AP Calculus
Algebra I
Through the study of Algebra, students engage their minds to reflect the sequential and logical thinking of our Creator. The reality of our world can be described mathematically when students are able to recognize patterns and predict outcomes. Algebra necessitates mastery as it is a crucial stepping stone to higher levels of math.

Algebra II

Algebra 2 engages the mind to reflect the sequential and logical thinking of our Creator.   The reality of our world can be described mathematically when students are able to describe patterns and predict outcomes.  Algebra 2 demands the development of higher order thinking skills to solve quantitative problems and an increased degree of fluency and flexibility finding solutions algebraically, graphically, and numerically.

Calculus

Calculus is the mathematics of instantaneous change and as such allows the student to get a glimpse of  the order in God’s creation. The study of limits involving infinity provides a vehicle for contemplating the infinity of God. Differential calculus enables the student to examine tangents to a curve at a point and calculate the area under a curve.  The discussion of rates of change in the creation provides a striking contrast to the unchanging nature of God. With a brief introduction to integral calculus, the student, again, is reminded of the concept of inverse operations in mathematics. This brief glimpse again illustrates the beauty and complexity of God’s handiwork.

Geometry

Geometry helps students develop thinking and reasoning skills through the solving of practical problems using geometric abstract models and structures. The concept of 3 undefined terms - point, line and plane - affords the opportunity to explore the concept of presuppositions. For the believer the basic presupposition is God (“in the beginning God…”). All of life proceeds from Him. Similarly in geometry all definitions, postulates, and theorems flow from the three undefined terms.  From the beginning  students must learn to communicate clearly, understanding the significance of accurate definitions. The orderliness and design of God’s universe are explored by mastering concepts surrounding geometric shapes, angles, and proofs. As the course progresses, the students use concrete models to aid them in thinking in the abstract.

PreCalculus

In precalculus, there are three primary objectives:  1) review the fundamental concepts of algebra, trigonometry, and analytic geometry; 2) foreshadow some important ideas of calculus; and 3) show how algebra and trigonometry can be used to model real-life problems. The concept of infinity is discussed more fully than in previous courses. At this level in mathematics students will look more deeply into the relationships between the various number sets, moving from the natural numbers to the complex numbers. The study of periodic trigonometric functions mirrors the various things in God’s creation that demonstrate periodicity. In addition students become more aware of the constants God has placed in the laws of creation. Numbers like pi and e have been placed in places by the Master Designer and man is supposed to study and discover what He has done. The expansion of topics provides the student with opportunities to contemplate the infinity of God as the one who established all of the laws of the universe

Strategic Financial Planning

The student will examine the general nature of financial management, the American financial system, taxes, insurance, and other major financial concepts. Specific attention is given to TVM (Time Value of Money); present value and capital budgeting, risk and asset evaluation; financial analysis and forecasting; financial decisions and market efficiency; and capital structure. Throughout the course, the student will search the scriptures and discover God’s view of money as a resource He expects them to understand and use properly according to his Will and Plan for their life to further His kingdom.
